About This Game

Yakuza 0 is a prequel set in the money-soaked Japan of 1988, splitting its story between a young Kazuma Kiryu and the series' volatile fan favourite, Goro Majima. Street brawling drives the plot, but the bulk of the game is its sprawl of diversions: cabaret management, real-estate wars, karaoke, arcade classics and dozens of side stories that veer from sincere to absurd.

That tonal range, crime drama threaded with low comedy, is exactly why it is so widely recommended as the entry point to the long-running series. Reception is overwhelmingly warm, with the familiar caveats: combat can grow repetitive and cutscenes run long. Rated Mature, it suits anyone wanting a substantial, character-driven crime story with an enormous amount to do around it.
