Sleeping Dogs follows Wei Shen, an undercover officer embedded in a Hong Kong triad, forced to act the gangster convincingly enough to keep both his cover and his conscience intact. Combat is its calling card: fluid, bone-crunching martial-arts brawling and environmental takedowns that lean on Hong Kong action cinema, set in a dense, neon-soaked open world that favours character over scale.
The story and the fighting are what players consistently single out; the caveats are its age and size, a smaller map and some dated, repetitive side activities by modern standards. Rated Mature, it is an easy recommendation for anyone who has exhausted the genre's headline names and wants a tightly made crime story with a setting few other games offer.
