About This Game

Born as a Black Flag expansion and shipped a decade later, Skull and Bones bets everything on the ship itself. There is no on-foot combat: fighting, trading, crafting and progression all run from the helm across a hostile Indian Ocean, and the broadside duels are the part that works, carried by striking water and weather effects and a steady drip of contracts, loadouts and upgrades.

That focus is also the complaint. Critics settled in the low 60s on Metacritic while player scores sank far lower, and both camps cite the same issues: repetitive missions, heavy grind and a pirate fantasy that ends at the railing. Ubisoft has nonetheless carried the seasonal roadmap into a second year, and with three-player online co-op and inclusion on PS Plus Extra, trying it costs subscribers nothing. Players after pure naval warfare will find real substance here; anyone expecting a full pirate life should sail elsewhere.
