Hideo Kojima's first post-Konami work is an open world built on an unusual verb: carrying. Traversing a collapsed America means managing weight, balance, and terrain on foot, while an asynchronous system lets the structures you build, ladders, bridges, roads, surface in other players' worlds. It is deliberately, defiantly its own thing.
Reception is genuinely split. A large contingent of players calls the atmosphere, the world-building, and the shared traversal quietly profound; an equally vocal group finds the pace tedious and the cutscenes excessive. It is the most original open world on this list and the least conventional, best approached by players open to a game that redefines what the genre's core activity can be. Rated Mature.
