How we picked the best vampire games
Vampire games are not one genre, so this list spans the range rather than ranking a single kind of game against itself. V Rising is survival and castle building, Vampyr is a choice-driven role playing game, the Castlevania entries and the Legacy of Kain saga are the hunting and the lore the whole subject rests on, BloodRayne 2 is stylish action, Vampire: The Masquerade Justice is PS VR2 stealth, and Immortal Realms is turn-based command. The rule for inclusion is that vampires have to be the subject, not set dressing, which is why cosmic-horror titles like Bloodborne sit on other lists. For nine of the eleven picks we read and summarized player reviews, overwhelmingly from Steam with a much thinner PlayStation Store sample, into what players consistently praise and consistently complain about. The two oldest re-releases, Castlevania Requiem and Blood Omen, have no written player reviews stored for them, so those two are judged on their store ratings and on what the packages actually contain.
