About This Game

Wolfenstein: The New Order reboots the series into an alternate 1960s where the Nazis won the war, and it commits to that premise with unusual seriousness. MachineGames wraps loud, dual-wielding shooting and optional stealth around quiet character scenes that give protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz a real interior life, so the campaign swings between pulp carnage and genuine feeling. Perks unlock through play rather than menus, rewarding whichever way a level gets tackled. It is a single-player-only shooter in a list crowded with multiplayer, and reception runs strongly positive on the gunplay, level design and story. The caveats are minor by comparison: some performance rough edges and a stealth system that is serviceable rather than deep. For players who want a substantial, well-written campaign to sink into alone it is one of the best picks here; anyone seeking competitive or co-op play will need to look elsewhere.
