Unicorn Overlord is a tactical fantasy RPG in which battles are never directly controlled. Units are assembled into small squads and given conditional orders, then released onto a continuous real-time map where the plan either holds or falls apart while the player watches it happen.
The depth sits in the preparation. Squad composition, formation and equipment decide most fights before they begin, and liberating the continent steadily opens a roster large enough to keep the experimenting going. It asks for patience with menus and a tolerance for a straightforward story, but for players who want a fantasy RPG about building a system rather than pressing attack, there is very little like it.
