About This Game

LIMBO reduces the puzzle-platformer to shadow and silhouette. A boy searches a monochrome forest for his sister, and the world answers with bear traps, drowning pools and grinding machinery that must be learned, usually by dying, before they can be passed. Playdead's 2010 debut, offered here on PS4, built its reputation on atmosphere: the grain, the hush and the sudden violence make even simple physics puzzles feel weighted with dread. Reception has stayed overwhelmingly positive for over a decade, with the main reservations being the trial-and-error deaths some find cheap and an ending oblique enough to divide interpretation. It is short, sombre and precise, better suited to a player chasing mood and momentum than one after a stern logical challenge, and it remains the template a whole wave of indie puzzle games followed.
