Chants of Sennaar builds its puzzles out of language itself. Climbing a great tower whose peoples no longer understand one another, the traveller fills a notebook by inference, matching glyphs to context until a foreign script resolves into meaning and a locked door becomes a sentence to be read. Rundisc's 2023 design, drawn from the myth of Babel and from illustrated codices, makes translation the core verb, with light stealth and environmental puzzles between the linguistic breakthroughs. Its reputation rests on that central conceit: the moment a scattering of symbols suddenly reads as instruction is the reward the whole game is engineered around, and it lands more often than not. The trade-off is scale. This is a focused, unhurried journey rather than a sprawling one, and it asks for observation and note-taking over reflex.
