This is the entry where Assassin's Creed fully committed to the RPG, swapping linear assassinations for a mercenary's odyssey across the Peloponnesian War. Ancient Greece is the draw: dozens of islands, naval combat aboard a customizable ship, 150v150 conquest battles, dialogue choices that branch toward multiple endings, and detours into myth against the likes of Medusa. A skill tree and loot loop sit underneath it all.

The trade-off is size. Critics rated it among the strongest in the series and often invoked The Witcher 3, but the recurring caveat is that finishing it demands grinding through repetitive side content, a pace players widely read as nudging them toward paid XP boosts. It rewards anyone who wants a hundred-hour world to live in, and frustrates those after the tight, stealth-first Assassin's Creed of old.
